A friendly reminder that the AusAlert national test will be carried out at the end of next month, Monday 27 July 2026. The government is introducing a new national emergency warning system, AusAlert, to send urgent messages which will contain information about what the emergency is, where it is happening, how serious the emergency is, what we should do, who the message is from and where to find more information.
This differs from emergency police alerts you may have received in the past as AusAlert covers situations such as natural hazards (bushfires, floods, cyclones, tsunamis), health emergencies (pandemics and other national public health events), biosecurity incidents (animal or plant disease, biohazard outbreaks) and public safety/security threats (serious public safety incidents, terrorism). The national test on 27 July 2026 will make compatible devices vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds.
An AusAlert message will appear on device screens and will clearly say it is a test. If you don’t want to receive the test, you can either turn off your mobile device or switch your device to aeroplane mode.
